Amina Kedir Hasen, a 30-year-old resident of Kumbi Kebele, HarenaBuluq, Bale Zone of Oromia, exemplifies the transformative impact of the MaYEA program. Identified as participant in 2024, Amina has taken both soft and hard skill trainings, complemented by hands-on technical support from MaYEA staff that turned her skills into profitable practice.
The program successfully facilitated a 62,000 ETB loan from the Cooperative Bank of Oromia, and Amina established her apiary with 10 hives (five modern and five transitional hives) applying the knowledge gained through training. Beyond her individual achievements, she is an active member of the Caffe Damma VSLA, contributing to her active participation in the VSLA and strives towards community’s collective financial growth and serves as an icon of resilience for rural women.
Amina produced 70 kilograms of honey in a single season, demonstrating her mastery of modern apiculture techniques. Her entrepreneurial spirit earned her a place at the 10th African Livestock Exhibition and Congress (ALEC) and the 5th Apiculture and Aquaculture Expo in Addis Ababa (Oct 30–Nov 1, 2025). There, she sold 56 kilograms of honey, earning 63,500 ETB, which enabled her to potentially fully repay her loan even before the grace period, while proudly showcasing Harena organic honey to national and continental audiences, adorned in her vibrant traditional attire.

Amina Kedir Hasen’s journey from foundational training to becoming a top vendor at a national expo illustrates the tangible impact of the MaYEA program. She is a dedicated producer, committed community saver, and celebrated entrepreneur, embodying the full potential of empowered rural women.
